Storm damage isn’t always visible outside. After severe weather, walk through your home and pay close attention to ceilings, walls, and your attic.

Water stains, damp insulation, peeling paint, or a musty odor can all indicate that moisture has entered through the roof. Catching these problems early can prevent mold growth and more extensive structural damage.

Even if you don’t see an active leak, hidden moisture can continue causing damage over time.

Document Any Damage

If you believe your home has sustained storm damage, take clear photos of anything you can safely see. This may include damaged gutters, fallen shingles, broken siding, or tree branches that struck the home.

Having photos from immediately after the storm can be helpful if you need to file an insurance claim. Keep records of the date of the storm and any temporary repairs that are made to protect your home from further damage.
